Congratulations to Julie, Stephen and Scott on their promotions last night.

Julie and Stephen were promoted to 5th Kyu Orange Belt, and Scott was promoted to 6th Kyu Orange Belt.

All three have shown diligence in their study of Shorinjiryu Koshinkai Karatedo, and I am proud of the progress that each has made.

Please join all the members of the Kengokan Dojo and I in congratulating Stephen, Julie and Scott on their promotions.

Joanna Choe Promoted to Shodan

On behalf of all members of the Kengokan Dojo of Shorinjiryu Koshinkai Karatedo, I am proud to congratulate Sensei Joanna Choe on her promotion to Shodan (1st Dan) in Shorinjiryu Koshinkai Karatedo at the recent National Black Belt Training Camp in Coonabarabran.

Sensei Joanna joined the Kengokan Dojo about 5 years ago, and has been a quick and dedicated learner ever since. She tested for Shodan-ho (probationary black belt) early this year, and did her final demonstration at the Black Belt Camp.

It has been a pleasure working with Sensei Joanna as she has worked through the mudansha (non black belt) syllabus, and I look forward to working with her on the more advanced aspects of our style, now that she has “graduated” to the black belt ranks from basic training! She will also be an instrumental part of the Kengokan Dojo teaching team.

Congratulations Jo, all at the Kengokan are proud of your achievements.

Congratulations to Steve on his promotion to 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt) last night.

Steve’s promotion recognises the rapid progress he has made since starting in his studies of Shorinjiryu Koshinkai Karatedo earlier this year.

A big well done to Sempai Joanna on the successful completion of her shodan-ho (probationary black belt) examination at the recent National Training Camp of Shorinjiryu Koshinkai Karatedo, held at Coolum over the weekend of 8-110 April. She did herself and all at the Kengokan Dojo proud with her excellent performance. Sempai Joanna will go on to complete her promotion to shodan (1st Dan black belt) later this year.

Congratulations to Chrissy on her promotion to 1st Kyu (brown belt black tip) in April. Chrissy has been training hard, and her efforts were recognised by our chief instructors, Shihan Jim Griffin and Shihan Max Estens, at the National Training Camp. Chrissy’s promotion was presented by Renshi Des and Sensei Adrian.

Congratulations to Sempai Jo and Chrissy.

Scott and Julie have worked hard, and their promotions are based on their excellent progress, and the strong improvements they have made recently.

Promotion to Shodan

Congratulations to Kengokan Dojo assistant instrutor Sempai Adrian Cepak who was promoted to Shodan (1st Dan black belt) at the Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Watanabe Ha Karate Australia national training camp at Coolum over the weekend of 16-18 April.

Graded to Shodan-ho (probational 1st Dan) 12 months ago, Sempai Adrian put on an excellent demonstration that shows his indepth analysis of Shorinjiryu karate technique.

Sempai Adrian’s promotion was awarded by headmaster of Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Watanabe Ha Karate, Hanshi Shunji Watanabe who presided over a panel consisting of Shihan Dan Hayes (USA), Shihan Page Christis (USA), Shihan Jim Griffin (Australia), Shihan Max Estens (Australia), Renshi Lesley Griffin (Australia), Renshi Des Paroz (Kengokan Dojo) and Sensei Tony Fletcher.

Congratulations to other yudansha promotion recipients Shihan Jim Griffin (nanadan), Sensei Mark Slingo (sandan) and Sempai Christine Dewar (nidan), who were promoted at the same event.

1st Kyu Promotion

Congratulations to Joanna Choe who was promoted to 1st Kyu (brown belt / black tip) a couple of weeks ago, at a grading conducted by Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Watanabe Ha Karate Australia chief instrutor Shihan Jim Griffin and Kengokan head instructor Renshi Des Paroz.

Joanna performed kata, yakusoku kumite and buki-ho well. Her progress reflects the excellent effort she has put in over 3.5 years of training in Shorinjiryu karate.
